USS MICHIGAN TO VISIT BUSAN

 

             BUSAN, Republic of Korea – The Ohio-class guided-missile submarine USS Michigan (SSGN 727) is scheduled to visit Busan, April 30, 2011.

             Michigan and her more than 150 crewmembers, homeported in Bangor, Wash., are on a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.

             Michigan last visited the port of Busan, Dec., 2010, for a regularly scheduled port visit.

             Measuring more than 560 feet long and weighing more than 18,000 tons when submerged, Michigan is one of the largest submarines in the world. Ohio-class guided-missile submarines are capable of supporting a multitude of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface ship warfare, strike, naval special warfare involving special operations forces, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, irregular warfare and mine warfare.

             Media members will be permitted to tour Michigan while it is in port May 2, and they will be briefed by crew members who will answer questions regarding daily operations and quality of life.
